About me :)
Hey there! How about taking a walk together? If you're up for some joy and a pinch of nostalgia, read on!
Let's revisit the colourful, carefree days of our childhood. Remember the excitement of exploring, playing games, and letting our imagination run wild—those spontaneous moments of innocence that made us laugh until our bellies hurt.
Back then, we didn't worry about mixing red stripes with purple polka dots, savouring a chocolate milkshake with a few slices of sausage, or letting Mr. Potato and a wooden stick become the best of friends. And who cared if we wore a Spiderman costume to our aunt Margaret's wedding or a proper Sunday shirt for a bug-hunting adventure? All that mattered was using our imagination, having fun, and embracing the joy of exploration.
I hope that walk down memory lane brought a smile to your face!
Now, let me share what I'm passionate about.
At Molli & Moai, I bring these precious moments to life through a series of objects and illustrations. Each creation is handcrafted with great care and dedication, blending various techniques like pottery wheel and sculpting, sewing and felting, and both analog and digital drawings.
Just like our walk, my creations aim to transport you back to those moments of ingenuity and freedom. They're meant to brighten your soul, inspire, delight, and ignite your imagination to take flight.
Wouldn't you love for your child to experience these magical feelings too? In our digitized world, the privilege of imagination seems to be slipping away. But trust me, having a rich imagination actually makes it easier and faster to develop many incredible abilities. So, let's celebrate the creative potential and give a big hooray to the geniuses of the imagination!
Oh, and by the way, I haven't introduced myself yet—I'm Susana Turró, the proud founder of Molli & Moai! :)
It's so nice to have you here!
As a multidisciplinary artist, I find inspiration in my little stone house in Portugal. My background - with a Dutch mother and a Catalan father - has taken me on a journey to various countries before I finally settled in Portugal. It was here that not only the country captivated my heart, but also my partner, who I am fortunate to share this beautiful life with.
Creativity has always been in my blood, thanks to my grandmother, who was a painter and encouraged me to explore my artistic side through countless activities. From painting various objects to singing opera while playing the piano (thankfully, no close neighbours to be disturbed!), baking delicious cakes, and inventing impossible fairy tales. Stimulating our imagination was an essential part of our daily lives. Ever since, creating things has become an integral part of who I am, it's in my DNA.
Toys played a special role too. If they weren't handmade by us, they were inherited or bought second-hand. Sometimes, they needed a little tender loving care due to being outdated or slightly damaged, and that's where I found joy in fixing and customizing them, making them beautiful once again. It wasn't just about playing with them—it was about giving them a new life and cherishing the process of creation.
As I grew older, I found myself moving from one corporate job to another, always yearning to be an artist. The social and family pressure of "You won't make money as an artist" made me take a different educational path, seeking more "practical" possibilities. But despite having steady work, I never felt truly fulfilled or completely happy. While the essentials were never lacking, there were times when making ends meet proved challenging.
Yet, my creative spirit never waned. I kept experimenting, training, and improving my skills in various techniques. That was a way to shed the corporate suit and embrace my artist apron, rediscovering my essence.
And voilà! One day, I finally mustered the courage to follow my heart and launched Molli & Moai, my second home. Here, you can discover my world and even take home a little creature if you feel like it.
